PGDM – Course Structure
The two-year full time PGDM programme comprises of 6 semesters. Career management services go in parallel across all 6 trimesters.
Year 1 | Trimester I: Construct the blocks of management
The learning at HKIMSR begins with community development project, where students need to identify visible socio-economic or ecological problem/s and provide an implementable solution for the same. The learning encapsulates developing empathy and responsibility towards the society and environment.
What follows is a classroom interaction to develop broader understanding of the basic principles of business & management. The trimester I provides an introduction to the research methods in management enabling the students to effectively use research tools and techniques during their projects in the subsequent trimesters.
Year 1 | Trimester II: Learning various management functions and tools for decision making
The trimester II emphasises on learning functional subjects across the spectrum of specialisations in management. It also includes the paper on Entrepreneurship and a LiVE project based on entrepreneurial thinking. The simulation helps in developing an entrepreneurial mindset and concretizing a business plan, which may be incubated by Innovation, Incubation & Entrepreneurship Centre (IIEC) in the subsequent year.
At the end of this trimester, students need to visit an International University abroad to get enriched from the international curriculum and experiences. Thus, enabling them to learn about global practices and develop a global mindset.
Year 1 | Trimester III: Creating a competitive edge
The trimester III focuses on learning subjects of universal context and contemporary values. These subjects are critical tools for any smart manager across specialisations. The trimester ends with submission of Team Leadership & Personality Development report based on their involvement in co-curricular activities throughout trimester I-II-III.
Summer Internship: Compulsory 8-10 weeks summer internship in corporate houses to complete research projects in their chosen area of specialisation.
Year 2 | Trimester IV-V-VI: Connecting ‘theory’ to ‘practice’
The trimester begins with submission of their summer internship project. The students are required to choose 8 electives in their area of specialisation and complete 2 PG Certificate Courses. They are also exposed to courses like IPR, Business Strategy, Corporate Governance, Leadership & Vision that actually enable them to learn the practical aspects of business & economics.
At the end of Trimester V, students need to compulsorily undergo 3-4 weeks of apprenticeship in the industry to be able to connect the classroom learning to the real world.
Career management services go in parallel across all 6 trimesters as follows:
- Trim I: Basic Orientations
- Trim II-III: Compulsory Soft Skills Training
- Trim IV-V: Compulsory personality grooming on corporate etiquettes & interview skills, confidence & attitude building
- TRIM VI: Preparing the students for onsite and offsite interviews based on their strengths, interests and abilities
